I wasn't actually rejoicing in his death, just the fact that he dicked around for so long with a terrible series that he didn't even finish, which is what all his "fans" prophesied anyway.

R.I.P.

This series got me attuned to reading "big books". For that reason alone it's important to me. Along with that, an author perishing while working on something unfinished (no matter how immaterial it may be to some) is always an unfortunate thing.
