All of Saturday's race meetings in NSW have been called off as authorities battle to contain suspected cases of the highly infectious equine influenza (EI).

Several horses stabled at Centennial Park near Randwick Racecourse, where Saturday's major meeting was to be held, have returned positive results to initial tests carried out on Friday.

A five kilometre exclusion zone around the Centennial Park stables includes Randwick Racecourse where around 700 thoroughbreds are housed.

The horses infected are not racehorses.
