Yeah I read bits and pieces of this years ago. Every time I'd go around to my friends place I'd pick it up and open it anywhere and there would invariably be some sort of vulgar debauchery going on. I don't know how it actually reads, though.

I've read it. Pretty nasty stuff. The narrative doesn't flow terribly well.

"The Bishop removes two fingers from Natalie's left hand. Out comes an eyeball. Blah blah blah"

The book was never finished. The translation I'm reading actually has Sade's notes in with the text ("go back and check page 45" or "add more stabbing vaginas with hot pokers here"). The latter half almost seems to be in outline form, just endless lists or sexual tortures that get worse and worse. This actually works well, because it seems like all feeling in the story is gone by this point, and the antagonists are just mechanically torturing their victims & checking off their accomplishments. Sade's writing style is pretty simple but the story has an interesting rhythm to it and it's rather hard to put it down. I just keep thinking, jesus fucking christ, what will this sick bastard say next... My favorite part has to be the blasphemous section which lists various perversions involving communion wafers. (Stick holy wafer in butt, fuck butt, jizz in butt, shit out wafer, eat, etc.) And the guy who tries to commit murder, sodomy, incest, rape, blasphemy, homosexuality, and torture all with one sex act
