favorites? onions?

i just started watching a bunch of his stuff
the usuals... 'north by northwest', 'vertigo', 'psycho', 'rear window'

LOVED rear window, and i now love jimmy stewart as a result

next on my list is '39 steps'
any others for required viewing?

"The 39 Steps" is fantastic

I also love "Rope", "Strangers on a Train," and if you get a chance to see "Dial M For Murder" in 3-d, by all means do so.

you didn't like psycho as much? it was way better than i thought it would be, and i had high expectations
cant imagine what it wouldve been like seeing that in 1960

You have to clear your mind and forget that you know how Psycho is going to end when you start to watch it. It's amazing how you can care about what's going to happen to one character, and then get switched so effectively halfway through.

I recently saw Spellbound and I Confess to hit 30 Hitchcock films. Both pretty great.

My favorites are Rebecca and Rear Window. Vertigo's pretty wonderful.

The version of The Man Who Knew Too Much with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day is amazing. The original is kind of a bloodbath.

Torn Curtain with Paul Newman is one you should track down, too.

I like it. I like it alot! But I think I like 1-6 on my list better. Not entirely sure, to be honest

But Im sure of 1-4. Notice how they are all color films. I love the technicolor look. Its like an old vintage postcard from clean and beautiful 50's.
If I were to recommend four films, then these are the ones I would suggest first. My experience is that "Dial M" tend to be overlooked for some reason. Out of the hundreds of Hitchcock dvd collecion boxes out there, that one if often forgotten.

Hitchcok is by far my favorite director. Some of you mentioned Rebecca and Rope, wich are both wonderful films. They could just as well have been in my top ten list. I didnt put too much effort in it.

kinda weird to see jimmy stewart playing kind of a prick

and the orchestra scene in 'man who knew too much'

this hitchcock guy knows a thing or two about suspense... yeesh
