Re: highlight of your day?
got a cigar box , made a mini amp out of it , used the circuit from a Barbie karoke machine
, and a modifyed danelecto fab echo , it had 300 millisecond echo , now its got 1500 , or so .
made a footswitch to turn the delay on and off , adding a chourus circuit tomorow .

it sounds so sweet . i love the i970 tv channel changer knob for the delay time.
that thing has been in my desk drawer for 30 years .
the second channel has seperate in and out jack . i am making another speaker cab
out of a real solid cigar box and will plug my mississippi porch stomper into that input.
also , hats off to darkus for turning me on to this concept .

Re: highlight of your day?

the bronze colored screws came from a towel rack that we garbage picked last week .
i love free hardware .every thing down to the last washer on this thing was here .
didnt have to leave to buy anything , the only thing that wasnt recycled is the delay .
that was 10 usd , on sale , oh and the pot , that was 1.99
the side panels were too thick for the 1/8th inch jack for the delay on/off .
the tin colored mounting bezel came from some pull blind hardware from an old apt .
had to drill it out though .
the finished product is just the garbage left over from doing the work.

Re: highlight of your day?

the goofy footswitch turns the echo ON ON on on .
the top carrying handle came off of the cutest little pull out power
supply modules i got from this computer dumpster . they did NOT want
to be rescued . took like 20 minutes a peice to completely dismember
these things to get em out , BAD handles !
should i paint the switch ?

Re: highlight of your day?

this represents a 19 hour build . i know it sounds like i was on ludes but , , ,
the amp cicuit had reverb , which turned out was blown , that was
2 hours of putzing around . then the echo had to be modified , power
switch , on off switch , input , output , led , and delay time mod .
2 wires for each , and this is that micro SMD shit , not old regular size
board . the resister i removed was smaller than the head of a pin !
there was a few head scratchers , like mounting the delay , and the
delay pot , cause of that goofy knob it had to be recessed . so .

Re: highlight of your day?

we have been doing some serious junkin , looking for poplar 1 by 2's .
i am building cigar box guitars as well . in the process , i found this
window spring , you put a guitar pick up under this , turn op the fuzz
and hit the spring with a screwdriver , or power slide the pick up ON the spring ,
holy wrath of KAHN !
yesterday we picked up an old 2 teared full size .organ nice 10 inch speaker ,
old ass silvertone tube amp , all sorts of hardware , pimp ass rerto speaker
grill cloth (for sound holes on a cigar box guitar) . and lotso wood .
tearing it down tonight.
woo hoo , TEAR DOWN !! get some beers and band aids .
the finished product is just the garbage left over from doing the work.

Re: highlight of your day?
so i had been up all night building the amp and i went to two high end cigar shops with the amp .
i sang xmass songs with the delay an long delay , rythmic loops , with a microphone at both places .
the owners loved it , i walked away with a dozen cigar boxs . two are simply stunning , i mean the one is just a work of art . they asked me to come back and perform , also they said i could stop in for more whenever for more and gave me the adress of their sister store , about 2 miles away from my house .
the one dude bought me a cigar .
i may end up buying the poplar for the necks but i really shouldnt .
adding the chorus and building the sub channel box / mississipi drum machine will hold me over till after the holidays . taking this to christmas at my moms , play carols with my bro , he plays acoustic , ill go electric , shrimpy on bass keytar and another kid on keys , should be fun .
have to reherse a LIL bit though , heh .
thanks for sharing that darkus , when i looked at the youtube viedos it really lit a fire under my ass .

Re: highlight of your day?
thanks , cant wait to finish it up , and get goin on the guitars . tonight we garbage picked a remote control HUMMER , with awesome rims that'll make for nice sound bezels also an electric cookie dough pump that had stainless steel circular bezels that will rock.SHARPPIE wrote:that's cigar box is pretty f'in sweet...
home depot has the 1 by 2 poplar , its 64 cents a foot
tonight me , gomti and shrimp completely dissasembled a 2 tear full size circa 1970 organ . i mean the entire chassis was just a series of small peices when they got done . queeg really had fun too . i got a ten , the expression pedal to mod into a stomper , and this rad tube amp . it had all these identical looking tone modules with like 5 transisters and some rudimentary 10 pin "integrated circuits" more like a mini envelope with leads . going to try and blow some of those suckers up and see what the smoker smells like soon
got many treats and 2 coffe cups full of screws , some real nice finishing ones too . hinges and all sorts of shit .
ripped apart a microwave too , it had a giant cap , and some sinister looking three mile island module , got some wire with connecters buch of shorty phillips screws , didnt fuck with that giant cap , i did desolder and disect the beeper thingy , it is a piezo , but like 1cm diameter , a fuckin MIN - EEEE !
i hate that shit .

Re: highlight of your day?
there was a piezo element in the microwave! its the beeper thingy , i got 3 more outa some air hockey timer i rescued and a coupla mini electronic kiddie games that were broke .
the tiny one didnt have any leads but it soldered right up with some flux . the other ones lead broke off the center but you can just reattach it anywhere on the white center disk . i was shocked about that .
the second channel on the amp wasnt working , the input jack had a short , the actual jack , fucking demonic . i never had that so i went to the other end of the chain where i had cut into the board and worked my way back from there . a female 1/4 inch jack with no visable short , but it was fucking hard shorted .
we did make really cool sub box for channel 2 , and a missisippi stomper . we found a porcelean chunk of a sink that had a brass drain , used that top piece of the sink drain as a bezel for the sub port . fancy ! my neighbor is a plumber , so i stopped by there to ask him about removing that drain piece , he just did it real quick , then he asked me if i wanted a corona , and gave me a twelve pack of corona light !!!! thanks .
i wonder if smaller diameter piezos have less low end freq response .
cutting in the chorus circuit tomorow , its gonna be a hassle there is no room at all , but , i have to have it . whats the sense of a portable amp if you need stomp box's too .

Re: highlight of your day?
did some scavanging today , got a 17 inch lcd flat panel monitor , HP , it didnt have a power supply and the built in audio has a channel blown , but i have some rad altec lansings any way . the only power supply i had that would fire it up was a pc power unit , this monitor needs 3.5 amps , so that was a hassle . so i gots my flap screen on dawg .
got a boat load of really cool cigar boxs , for my cigar box guitar project , and a bunch of other misc crap . all the christmas gifts we are giving this year are "recycled" or dumpster finds . got some really cool stuff though .
my neighbors moved so we made a portable bass amp out of a small cabinet they tossed . i had to majorly rework it , brace it out and i only used 2 of the original side panels . it has a 12 inch speaker we got out of the silvertone organ off the curb the other day , and a pizza baking tray for a speaker grill . i got going a little too fast and drilled an 1/8 th inch hole into my left index finger , pretty deep too , it bled a lot and hurts like hell !
tomorow i am putting in a crossover , a tweeter , an amp , and maybe a parametric eq circuit if it needs it . i might put an internal power supply and just set up a pedal board that would slave off the cab . like a big muff , 7 band eq and a bass chorus .the crossover has 2 inputs so i may add another amp , from a karoake machine , those have built in reverb . it will be cool for the woods . it will end up weighing in at like 80 / 90 lbs though , i have this mini car battery to power it !
now we have the gear about all ready so we have to start rehearsing for the christmas program .
shrimp on keytar , gomti on bass and im on electric . my bro plays acoustic and his kid plays keys too , they all sing very well to so this should come off pretty nice . hopefully i can convince erik to do a full rehersal , but i doubt it .
we stopped at a dumpster for a cigarette store and it had a lil alarm unit in the trash , there was a piezo element in it ! thats 5 in 2 days that i scavenged , woo hoo ! also went to a few bars dumpsters for bottles to make bottle neck slides , i saw a blue glass bottle of wine at the liquor store , have to keep my eyes peeled for one of those .
with all these sweet cigar boxs i could start making theremins again . i got some rad cases now .
