You may or may not have heard about the viral music phenomenon that is Rebecca Black and her single “Friday.” The single has been in the Top 40 best selling tracks on iTunes for over a week. As underground sensations go, Rebecca Black makes YouTube-discovered Justin Bieber look like Fugazi. In short: her mom paid a company called Ark Music Factory $2,000 to write Rebecca a song. They wrote “Friday,” and a horribly literal video was produced. The video/song became a hit after it was posted on a blog that made fun of the tune. “Friday” became a viral hit because it’s so awful, but presumably teens around the world are now buying the single because they believe it to be quality music. There’s something poetic/ironic/hilarious about the fact that Rebecca Black’s busy week of breaking through occurred while thousands of real musicians were trying to get attention at the SXSW Music Festival. Rolling Stone ( http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... y-20110322 ) takes a very brief look at what Rebecca Black and her family might gain from the song’s Internet success (thus far), as well as a look at some of the “Friday” parodies.

I repeat - geniuses.

Oh those poor "real musicians trying to get attention at the SXSW Music Festival."
If it's garbage like Trap Them they deserve to languish unlistened to.

That Conan parody is the lamest one I've yet seen.

Is this the latest pop culture phenomenon?

I'll leave you all to it.

I didn't watch....why do I need a parody, when the original is so awesome?

it's like Mrs Miller & Jackie Mason had a baby...and then dropped it on its head.
