which is as good as Mozart's Requiem: go!

No Zorn. No "Kronos Quartet". No Schoenberg or Stockhausen. Classical.

I like a lot of Mahler, Saint-Saens, Holst (Planets, of course) and Wagner. Used to live with a guy who said "he was glad to be born so he could listen to the music of Bach", but I'm more of a Beethoven man myself.

Moonlight Sonata, 5th Symphony, that kind of thing.

This goes into "somebody grumbling into a piano" mode.

Back in 2003 people were here raving about Rites of Spring. I really felt it was insipid.

I usually feel that way about things people rave about as well.
seems like the higher the level of raving climbs, the lower my expectation level drops.
if a person who really knows my tastes throws a recommendation my way, I get excited,
but if there are too many bees buzzing around the hive, it just ruins it for me.
it's almost as if I approach the recommendation with a "well alright... what is so damn "great"
about this thing?" outlook. in fact, often times I will put overly hyped items on the back burner
to let cool, only to approach at a later date aka once the parade has left town.

It wasn't that, it felt I was listening to classical by numbers.

Mendelssohn - Hebrides

also love requiem, although went to see it performed at the Opera house and they failed to crank it up anywhere near loud enough. Their priority was to have it absolutely note-perfect and passion-free, so I may as well have listened to it on my iPod.

Lots of other stuff that I have no idea what it's called
