When I was in grade school all I did was read fantasy

I read all the Conans
Xanth by Piers Anthony
tons of Tolkien

and I was a huge fan of John Carter by Edgar Rice Bouroughs but that's Martian fantasy

I don't really read fiction anymore, but check out George R R Martin, Sanne.

It's like Tolkien for grown-ups. Big focus on complex medieval politics. Awesome stuff.

Makes Robin Hobb's stuff seem like Little Golden Books...

I'm not bothering with Martin until he gets off his arse and finishes that series. I guess I'll get back to you in 2030.

I re-read Dune over my uni holidays, as a lightweight recovery sesh for that last Pynchon tome. It fits all the "fantasy" archetypes, albeit in the future 'n' shit.
