we haven't had one of these yet, have we?

I'd like some film recommendations. Please list a few films that you think are important/good/whatever. Things you think that more people should see.

Great film, I also liked the Showtime remake with Jack Lemmon and George C. Scott. I dunno when they're finally gonna release that on DVD though (it's only available on video at the moment  ).

Gattaca. I'm not a huge fan of Ethan Hawke, or of Uma Thurman, but I really dug this film.

Man.

I don't think she can find it readily in the States though.
I had to watch some bootleg shite.

Cosy Cool. If you have not seen this, you're a pleb of mediocre standing and no mistake. If you liked Easy Rider, you'll hate this.

While looking through the Netflix site (this is what this is all about. I've decided to spend $10 a month on something) I found a movie that I really enjoyed and I'd like to recommend it-

It's a silent movie from 1927 directed by Tod Browning called "The Unknown" starring Lon Chaney. (Looking it up on imdb will spoil it.) If you like the movie Freaks you'll like this one.

yes, I said "movie" 3, no, 4 times.

All the Asian movies I talked about in my thread.

Stay away from Irreversible.
Unless you want to vomit.
The director fucked that movie up.
It could have been great.

I'm hesitant toward Shortbus
despite the rave reviews

however, I wouldn't mind seeing The Bridge.

I saw it last friday, and it was fucked up, disturbing and beautiful at the same time (beautiful because of the photos of San Fran)... I really want to visit that place someday..
Many suicides there, but the filmcrew also saved some lives...

Last week I saw loads of weird movies, since there was a film festival in town, and the Bridge was on of them...
Also check out "Getting Gilliam", "Shooting Dogs" and "We Fuck Alone" (or Destricted as imdb has named it). The last one is a short by Gaspar Noe (The guy behind Irreversible), and it contains some violent masturbation and a brutal climax. If you are cool with Irreversible violence, this short just might be your thing...

I just saw this great documentary called DiG. Its about the two bands, The Dandi Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Iam not a fan of any of those... In fact Ive hardly heard any of them, but a common quote about the film is that its worth it regardless if youre a fan of the bands...

Fighting, drug abuse, success, jealousy, schizo and failing... Its all there!

DiG was very cool. Hated both bands and everyone involved with them, but the Docco was pretty darned enthralling.

As I think I've mentioned, watch Overnight. The documentary about the director of 'Boondock Saints'. Its very similar in shooting style and the fact that one loathes all the main subjects and wishes them nothing but despair and downfall, which luckily, you get.
