Well, first off I'll say yeah, fuckin' great.
Of course, the last Johnny Depp flick to be released, following the life of the second earl of Rochester, John Wilmott.
Film is a little scratchy at times plot-wise, but being that it's somewhat stylized, it doesn't really do it any harm. Very drained colour with a green tinge throughout.
The three heroines are all gorgeous and portrayed excellently, as is all the supporting cast (including two from 'Coupling'!) and help make it an interesting film from start to finish.
Cinematography is mildly annoying at times, a fair bit of handycam (something I'm not too against) but a lot of rather claustrophobic, in tight shots. Coupled with the extreme letterboxing and my small tv, it made it a little much at times. Lighting was great however - very bleak and often pulsing from use of candlelight.
The dialogue was one of my chief highlights in this, with some beautifully written lines, mostly delivered by our friend Johnny. Many quotables to be had, especially in the vain of drunkeness and debauchery.
A bit grimy, a lot sexy, and fairly compelling. Well worth the watch.
Three and a half borgs and a mudcrab out of 5.
