i really LOVE sushi!

spending way too much money on ordering it too many times..
anyone of you ever tried making it yourself?
does it really take that long?

i still got the christmas sushi package that i got from work last year..
i'm still waiting to find the guts to use it and make my very own sushi.

i got the bamboe rollers..
they were part of the christmas sushi package.
if everything in the package is still useable then i will try it soon.
if the longest part is the rice then thats no problem..
i hope the rolling up part wont be too hard.

my faforites are the nigiri and maki sushi.
and right now i really wouldnt mind sitting at this table, or plate..or whatever it is!

The rice would take me the longest.
To get good sticky rice...ah hell...I'll let Mr. Cheftastic bust out the sticky rice knowledge.

Once the sticky rice is cooked, its just a question of cutting everything up and rolling it. I used bamboo rollers to do it. It doesn't take long to make if you have everything ready. I liked making "inside-out" rolls too. Sushi rolls are fun to make.

Anyone been to japan?

I went a couple of times to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and some other smaller towns, and we ate sushi ALL the time.... They hardly wanted any money for it, and the taste made western sushi fade into almost nothing. Funny thing is that the raw sushi isnt that common in Japan. They more go for the stuff thats been on the frier or boiler for just a couple of seconds.

NOICE!! I LUUUUURVE sushi!!

Use a medium grain rice (rinse well in water), which you can just cook in a rice cooker.
If you don't have one, just use the ratio of 1 cup of rice to about 1.2 cups of water + salt to taste.
Bring to the boil, then simmer for a few minutes (stir occasionally).
Place a lid on top & reduce the heat to lowest setting, cook for a further 10-15 mins.
Remove from heat & allow to stand covered for another 10-15 mins.
Turn rice out into a shallow dish.
Combine even amounts (adjust to taste) of sugar & rice vinegar (about 2 tbsp of each for 1 cup of rice).
Sprinkle rice with vinegar mixture & stir without mashing or breaking the grain (the rice will become stickier & glossy).
Allow to coool.......ready to go!

there is a sticky rice that is sweet and they eat for holdays and such not an every day thing..

any rice they cook tends to be stickier than the rice my mom would cook

we are talking about people that cook rice lots and lots of ways.

2 different types of sticky rice dude

sushi is made with a white short/medium grain rice
i think ur talking about mochi rice which is glutinous sticky shit
both are referred to as sticky rice

however, ur right , they dont use mochi rice to make sushi
