LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky county prosecutor has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of wanton endangerment and fleeing from police.
Court records show that on Jan. 10 a Kentucky State Police trooper saw Kungu Njuguna, an assistant Jefferson County attorney, driving with a woman on the hood of his car.
Njuguna fled from the scene and a warrant was issued. He was arrested on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty Friday in Jefferson District Court. He was released on his own recognizance and faces a preliminary hearing on Feb. 3.
The woman, Tina Rhodes, told police they were arguing when he nudged her with the car, then accelerated and drove about three blocks with her on the hood. She suffered minor injuries.
Bill Patterson, a spokesman for the county attorney's office, told the Courier-Journal that Njuguna is suspended without pay until the resolution of the case.
Njuguna did not return a call seeking comment Friday, but his attorney, Frank Jewell, said, "We stand by a denial of all criminal charges. We look forward to exonerating him."
"Well, they finally did it: They killed my fucking car."
