Enternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind...is ONE of my favoruite movies and needs more attention from people.
Very hyped, dont you think? At least when it came out... "Jim Carrey shows a new side" etc etc...

I wouldn't call that 'underrated,' as it met with quite a lot of acclaim, here
The Science of Sleep, on the other hand...

I watched Eternal Sunshine because it sounded OK, and my 19 y.o. friends kept saying "man, you've gotta go see it".
I liked it a lot.

Who gives a shit? Letter from Iwo Jiwa rates #139, which is surely largely a result of sentimentality.
A film only has to rate between 7.9 and 9.1 to make the list, and it's mostly films that westerners have good access to be able to see in the first place.

Im just saying that its not underrated. Many people saw it, most people appreciate it. It was in fact a huge independent success.
I havent seen Letters from Iwo Jiwa yet, but new films, even blockbusters, has a tendency to make the list immediately. Even Spiderman was there, during its big hype. Most films mentioned in this thread rates between 7 and 9 on imdb. That doesnt mean they cant be underrated. Sure Ed Wood is voted as one of the 250 best films of all time, but most people tend to forget about it. It wasnt a commercial success.

If those films were any good, I would call them underrated...

Oh...I see.. you don't care much for Polanski?

I love some of his films, like Rosemary, Pianist and Chinatown (what a suprise). But the Ninth Gate was weak in my opinion. I havent seen Vampires or The tennant.
I based my harsh comment on the first two films you listed. Thats why I also added

But the ninth gate and Sleepy hollow both stars Depp and are sort of comic horrors. That means you would probably not like Vampires either.
That said, I think Rosemary's baby and the ninth gate are pretty similar.
Second point, not even you rate these films. So, they're underrated.

Fair enough. I didnt make this thread to argue with anyone.

I've always been a Pekar fan from his local writings. The movie didn't disappoint.
