We had his best years. He stopped being himself when Vieira left...he hardly played with a smile on his face. His last great game was against Real Madrid in 06 and that was still a horrible season for him. I'm not sorry to see him go, I'm glad he's going. Last season he played 17 games in total, less than a quarter of the season and he was prolific. Without him we showed we were still a very good side and that what we needed was not a contender for player of the year, but someone who could poach goals. Ironically, Arsenal needed Nistelrooy after selling Pires, not Henry. Another irony is that our change in fortune is often mistakenly attributed to the sale of Vieira. The emergence of Fabregas the year before his sale negated that, the true harm came from sale of Pires and Edu respectively. People are saying they're going to miss Henry, I've missed his input since 2005 (of course he was prone to the occasional flash of genius - but the fella on the whole GAVE UP). I've had plenty of time to get over him.
You're absolutely right jJhn, a good finisher is all that's needed up front. With the 30 million we're expecting in transfers this season (Reyes, Henry and some of the other hangers on <KLINGONS!!??>) and the 20 million the board has already promised Wenger, we're ina good position to get in someone of quality. I'm not sure Wenger will go for a young head, but Torres, Eto'o, Babel have been mentioned. There's also talk of Wenger bringing in Owen to do a job, but I don't think that's likely.

RVP (a good finisher) and Abedayor will still be dangerous up front. Let's just hope there is a decent plan the cover the movement of two strikers (with Ali gone as well).

There are heavy whispers about bringing both Martins and Owen from Newcastle. As usual, Torres and Eto'o are in the mix. My bet is on Babel for the wing forward position or a relatively unknown player.
All this seems to have been over nothing as well, it looks like we'll be accepting a bid from Kroenke and that Dein will be reinstated...but who knows. Wenger looks unlikely to continue after this season and that is the real worry.

Henry's agent less than two weeks ago wrote:I can categorically state that I never had a meeting with anyone representing Barcelona

His agent was on the news this morning. He was very surprised Henry had been dealing with Barcelona behiond his back. Can his agent do Arsenal and Barca for tapping up his player?

Good point. His most valuable asset to the club last season was his marketability. I say we make Senderos our new poster boy. He looks like a slightly less down syndrome Beardsley...we can tap into the much neglected spastic market. I'm all for it.

I think it's a goer, as long as he has his noggin taped up for all the promo shots.

Then it's a done deal. I'll call my secretary to get Mencap on the phone. We're gonna do some promo shots with some sick kids...you know...kids that are so sick they fuck their siblings.

I think we're going to get some good press out of this.

How about Sendy and Berby in a North London face to face spaz off?

I think you're onto a winner there...but it would be a logistical nightmare. ARE YOU FORGETTING ABOUT CONGESTION CHARGES? TERRORISTS IN THE BT TOWER WITH LAZER-SCOPIC RIFLES? DANGEROUS, CANKEROUS, CANCEROUS, DEBILITATING, DEATH INDUCING HORRORS? HELLO?!?!
John...just call Saatchi and tell them to run a an add saying the event has been called off. We'll get the press for NONE of the effort. John, you're a genius!

So, they've given Sagna the number 3 shirt right off the bat. They must be planning on using him.

What the fuck?
West Ham have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, BBC Sport understands.
The Hammers will unveil the 30-year-old Sweden international at a press conference at 1400 BST.
Ljungberg, who was also a target for Fiorentina, joined the Gunners in a £3m deal from Halmstads in 1998 and scored 72 goals in 325 games for the club.
He had two years left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger decided to sell him.
Ljungberg, who was Arsenal's longest serving player, struggled with injury last season and played just 26 games.

So? He was waay over the top anyway. You should be happy to see him go.
Arsene is a good player on the transfer market, so you should trust him.

West Ham'll buy anything.
I just sold them some bags of air off ebay.
Nice little earner, geezer.

Ljungberg struggled last season when he was fit. Wise sale, right there. Ljungberg was no Pires though, was he?

What the fuck happened to loyalty?

He didn't get that many opportunities to re-establish himself when he was fit, but I doubt he was going to be a first choice starter again with the likes of Rosicky and Denilson running around.
Barring injury, he should be a sure starter for West Ham. They haven't got much else.

I saw a guy on the news this morning with a new robotic arm from Scotland.
I thought of you, John.
The arm is from Scotland. Not the guy.

I think he will be a good signing for us.
Obviously past his best, but will be good cover for Faubert, who is already injured.

You've signed the robotic arm?
Wow, Rick only just saw it in the US!
Hammers WILL buy anything.
Want to buy some recycled toilet paper Joey?
