Okey, I didn't watch all of it. 20 minutes or so. All the time I felt I was watching a trailer. The constant jumping, the fact that it's a remake (always a bad sign) and the fact that Scorsese is the man behind it is reasons enough for me. I just couldn't take it. It gave me epilepsy.Thunder Bear";p="852359 wrote:How is it one of the worst movies youve ever seen? Explain why it sucks.
I dont belive you. You said in a earlier post that you only saw ten minutes of it...
I lost my faith in the academy years ago. Well, actually Ive never had faith in it... But still, Departed is Oscar worthy, along with several other Scorsese films.

Well, 20 minutes is more than enough time to judge a two and a half hour film, right?
Its not.
There are some great remakes out there, like Scarface, Dracula, Lawrence of Arabia etc. Theres also several good ones, like Dawn of the Dead, The Fly, King Kong etc...
Departed is not that much of a remake, its more like adapting the story of Infernal Affairs, just like the Magnificent Seven (Seven Samurai) and Fistful of Dollars (Yojimbo... one of the greatest films ever!).
These two are not better than the originals, but they are different. Departed is different, but also better than the original!
That said, remakes are often a bad sign...
You dont like Scorsese either? He is the man behind some of the greatest Hollywood films of all time!

I haven't seen anything I've liked by Scorsese. I still think that 20 minutes of a movie should be adequate to judge approximately where on the scale a movie is.

Which Scorsese flicks have you seen? Avitator, Gangs of NY, and Bringing Out the Dead? Okay movies all three...
But how about Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Temptation of Christ, Mean Streets, Casino, Kundun, Cape Fear (another great remake, yet many disagree) and even that Bob Dylan documentary. All great films!! In fact some of the greatest films ever made, Hollywood or not.

I've seen Aviator, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull (probably the one I liked best), Casino, Cape Fear and No direction home. I didn't think they sucked or anything, I just didn't like them very much.

I saw it last night.
I'm going to call everyone lace curtain Irish pussies for the rest of the day.
Anyone know where I can get those shoes Walhberg was wearing in the last scene?

That'd make a mildly interesting offshoot topic.HALE-BOPP";p="854345 wrote:The opera scene could have been cut- I can't stand watching a movie that shows someone closing their eyes and basking in the glory of hearing an opera

I love the fact that it takes about thirty minutes just to get to the title card in this film. And that thirty minutes is fascinating.
