Nice to see Kathy Burke on the big screen again, she is an actress of immense talent that stretches far beyond her performances with Harry Enfield and his sketch shows.
I fucking love everything you've mentioned in this paragraph.

TTSS is one of my favourite movies ever, production-wise. I also loved A Single Man in that respect.

You guys should check out The Intouchables. It made me feel good about the world again.

Into Darkness is dumb fun, someone pre-spoiled the obvious bit for me though.

Behind the Candelabras is well-acted, but it doesn't contain any surprises if you know the history of Liberace. And only goes from the point when he meets his boyfriend.

A semi-famous comedian on my Twitter is telling all his followers, seriously, that Liberace wasn't gay. Like, seriously. He's going on and on about it. Norm MacDonald. @normmacdonald That's him.

Already an orphan, Iris can't stand the thought of losing her brother to leukemia, but she has no money to pay for his treatment. Millionaire Shepard Lambrick does, but he'll only part with his cash by way of a lethal winner-takes-all parlor game.

cute little character study involving a game of decision making.
abrupt/pitiless but predictable ending.
lessons to be learned. i had fun. squirming.

In this comic drama from director Roman Polanski, two sets of parents meet in the aftermath of an incident in which one of their children bullied the other.
As the evening progresses, the adults confront each other in increasingly hostile ways.

I may be biased because I'm a race fan but "Rush" by Ron Howard was a great film. It's a true story, it's shot beautifully, perfect casting, funny at times and ass clenchingly exciting at times. Get it when it hits Netflix/DVD/whatever.

All is Lost. Oh dear. I think it's supposed to be about the strength of the human spirit, hope and the instinct for survival and all that. Bob Redford played it well. However, all I was thinking from the beginning was "what the hell is an old, arthritic dude doing out there on his own, clogging the ocean up with more debris? Drown already."
Sightseers - Delicious, dark comedy. Lolled many times. Didn't know it was going to be a comedy, which might have helped.
Her - Not the soppy love story it feels like it's going to be at the start. Very clever musing on people, relationships and technology, some very funny moments, flick that makes you think.
Saving Mr Banks - think nails being dragged tortuously down a never-ending blackboard with your genitals being simultaneously tasered for as long as you can bear it
Dallas Buyers Club - soo-fucking-perb. Great (true) story, brilliant cast, just wonderful
Philomena - thoroughly watchable, great performances by Coogan and Dench.

Also watched Happy Valley series. loved it. Great gritty police drama with believable people - nailed it.

Way more people should see this. It's so good, but it was hardly released.

Now that no one comes here, I think I can finally participate in this forum...but how the fuck does this work? it says "recent films" but a lot aren't. Sightseers (just an example) came out like a year & a half ago. fuck it...I'll just go in reverse order, and stop me when I get too unrecent....ha! who am I kidding? I'll be at Birth of a Nation by the time another person posts...In the interest of time I will only list movies (non-revival) that I saw in a theater:

20,000 Days on Earth
Incredible, entrancing, inspirational...all the blurbs they use in advertizing for shitty movies apply here. BUT, it's really for FANS ONLY. If you don't know anything about Nick I'm sure it's a whole shitload of 'what the fuck are they talking about?' & 'who the fuck cares?'. Blixa seems a little bitter...and fat. Kylie got old, but she's still smokin hawt.

Horns
Liked this a whole bunch. Radcliffe's 'Mercan accent was spot on. Juno Temple is face-melting hawt.

A Letter to Momo
One of the more beautifully detailed anime movies that I've ever seen. The background in the market scene just blew me away. Story is bittersweet/heart-tugging/life-affirming, without going over to the land of sappy. Saw the Japanese version.

Frank
Fucking greatness! I love your wall! It's nice to see a movie about the contrast between art, pure art, and the complete opposite of it - commercialism/business/industry. Admittedly I did not know much about Frank Sidebottom before seeing this. Not that it's really about the real guy...more the inspiration. Regardless, Fassbender is awesome...and he has a certificate.

Get On Up
SUUUUUUUUUUUCKED. It's like a movie about a character based on a fucking characterture based on a real person. Pathetic. What really makes me sad is that there will be at least one person who sees it and thinks that was JB. Fuckin failure almost all the way around...The guy who played Bobby Byrd was fabulous though.

Mood Indigo
Gondry's best movie, hands down. Filled (as usual) with tons of special effects that had me (as usual) going, "How the fuck did they do that?". You really can't get cuter than Audrey Tautou.

Borgman
huh...I, uhhh...ummm. That pretty much sums it up. It's a whole buncha What the fuck, with some pretty good actors creeping me the fuck out. I don't really know if I liked it or not. I guess it's worth seeing...once.

Tammy
Meh...dragged, and just wasn't all that funny. I like Melissa McCarthy, but this was just bad.

Chef
Dug it a lot. Personally, I think it suffered from lack of budget (there's only 2 cities between Florida and LA? c'mon...), but overall pretty damn entertaining...and, from what I hear, pretty accurate.

Dance of Reality
Jodorowsky's a fucking genius. Everyone says that...and everyone be right. I don't know if this is my favorite film of his, but it's up there. It's definitely his most personal.

Neighbors
Good...not overly great, but funny enough, and a crisp 97 mins.

Jodorowsky's Dune
Really...I said the guy is a fucking genius already! Incredibly interesting. I hope the rumor that they want to make an animated series from his shooting script (book) actually comes true.

The Lunchbox
Excellent all the way around, but the dialogue/writing is outstanding. This & Mood Indigo (both love stories...puke!) are probably my favs of this year.

Anchorman 2
Liked it. Maybe not as much as the first, but I liked it. It's a bit too long, but I liked it. Did I mention I liked it?

Nebraska
Again, brilliant writing...that Alexander Payne is one good word putter-togetherer. Dern is damn good, but June Squibb really made the film.

Inside Llewyn Davis
Kinda confused me. I dug it, the acting was great, music was great, but it just really had nothing to it. Liked, but would not recommend...unless you're a huge folk fan.

Sharppie and I saw "Giuseppe Makes a Movie" this past weekend.
Delightful documentary about a former child actor who fortunately didn't go the way of Eddie Furlong.
