RIP Mark Linkous (sparklehorse)

Post by King_Mushroom »

I have alot of respect for Mark Linkous' visionary albums. This news makes me pretty sad, as much so as when Elliot Smith died. Great tunes for listening to after hard times... RIP mark.

Never heard Sparklehorse before. A few distant friends have them in their collections. Just listened to It's a Wonderful Life from the youtube link. Very Flaming Lips, very Sigur Ross, very Self. A lot of good things. Will get that album and explore outwards.

You will be rewarded greatly and then this news will make you sadder. All the albums have something to offer but his last two are probably the best to start out. He has collaborated with Wayne Coyne (Flaming Lips) on a few occasions.

try to download Dark Night of the Soul. He co-wrote the album with Danger Mouse.
David Lynch did the accompanying book of photos. EMI decided not to release it
and some believe this led Linkous into a deeper spiral of depression leading up to
his suicide.

...and decrease the surplus population

Seriously I am done tired with these successful and well-respected musicians, artists, writers topping themselves: it just makes a mockery of us mediocre people getting knocked back again and again in the chance of carving out a decent living...
Fuck you Mark Linkous. Rot in Hell.

I have no issue with these people topping themselves. Just accelarating an existing process. It also gives me the opportunity to be anknoyed that I can't watch them play live.

It's like David Lynch should have told him that you don't need depression and struggle to create something.
I think he said depression and struggle don't help much at all...
From his book Catching the Big Fish.

His answer to everything seems to be transcendental meditation
Should have twittered it to Mark Linkous

Bummer...
But I did dl the album and plan on listening to it someday.

They sold the cd but just threw in a blank disc or something for people to burn the album onto?
I forget the details about that release... very different.

I have no problem with people committing suicide, in fact if that makes them happy they should do it.
What annoys me is that they devalue that which major frustrations in my life are caused by my attempting and failing to obtain: thus I wish death upon them for devaluing with their deliberate death that which I have no choice but to base my life around obtaining. That they are already dead frustrates instead of assuaging me. I am angry they cannot die again.

as long as their second death doesn't frustrate the same way the first death did

hah! you make me lol. I kinda feel the same way about these figures. I guess people are just built differently, what satisfies you doesn't them. What hurts me is that some of these guys I respect as almost role-models, they influences our lives in positive ways, so when they go and throw their life away on a whim it just fucks you up a bit. He 'made-it' AND killed himself too, such high standards for life it would seem. I wont even 'make-it' and would never have the balls to kill myself. So makes me feel pretty small. And yes punish them by continuous resuscitations/deaths.

Well if you've made it I guess the logic is 'what next'. So the suicide is a logical progression if you will.

Either way they demonstrate a fatal lack of imagination. Interesting that it'd be an "artist" to do that...
