Mallgoth music

Mallgoth Music = Cheesy, quirky garbage that try too hards on Last.fm love to name drop and scrobble.

We all know that socially inept try too hards (of the metalfag lineage) on Last.Fm are mall goths or mall goth associated people IRL.

Artists that are considered mall goth include...

Big Dumb Face
Boredoms (Early)
Buckethead
Butthole Surfers
Captain Beefheart
Carnival in Coal
Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo, etc.)
Dog Fashion Disco
Diablo Swing Orchestra
Estradasphere
Frank Zappa
Hanatarash
Idiot Flesh
iwrestledabearonce
John Zorn
Kayo Dot
Keiji Haino
Leftover Crack
Les Claypool (Primus, etc.)
Magma
Maudlin of the Well
Maximum The Hormone
Melt-Bananna
Melvins
Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Faith No More, etc.)
Mong Hang
Nuclear Rabbit
Orange Tulip Conspiracy
Painkiller
Peter Brotzmann
Pin-Up Went Down
Polkadot Cadaver
Praxis
Ruins
Samla Mammas Manna
Screaming Mechanical Brain
Secret Chiefs 3
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Stolen Babies
Sun Ra
System of a Down
Tatsuya Yoshida (Koenjihyakkei, etc.)
That 1 Guy
That Handsome Devil
The Book of Knots
The Gerogerigegege
The Locust
The Residents
They Might Be Giants
Tub Ring
Unexpect
Ween
Xenaki

That's just the tip of the iceberg, I can go on forever. These bands are 'abstract' in the same way Family Guy is 'astract'. A lot of the above is what E-Mallgoth metal heads like to namedrop to seem eclectic. They like these groups because they can relate to the LOL CRAZY AND EXTREEMMMMMM XD!!!! nature of the music. Therefore these groups are advanced mall goth music.

Typical Mallgoth Last.fm page. Mallgoths also seem to embrace the "comedic" duo Tim and Eric for their XD SO RANDUM nature. A lot of US mall goths are angsty teenagers who wear ridiculous clothing and are fans of this because they can relate it to the quirky, extreme lifestyles they wish they led.

True experimental music pushes the boundaries tastefully and subtly, as if it is something natural. It take elements of older music fusing them into a completely new and foreign style of music that most people can't really put a finger on.

Genre hopping and funny lyrics/gibberish hasn't been experimental for almost 100 years now. I do like some genre fusions when they're tastefully done. For example John Zorn's Masada is OK before he does his ridiculous pointless squawking. Zorn has some good music but he mostly makes directionless free improv and gimmick laden compositions. His gimmick-free Jewish Worship songs for aging New Yorkers are not bad.

Mall goths only like to namedrop free jazz with elements that they can relate to from their other preferred styles of music. That's why they prefer something noisy and completely structureless artists such as Borbetomagus, Sun Ra or Peter Brotzmann over something that is 'out there' but still firmly rooted in traditional playing like Egberto Gismonti or Marilyn Crispell. A lot of stuff music nerds ironically listened to in the 90s which is now taken seriously by teenage metalfags who consider it actual avant garde music.

Most of these artists just work with a cut & paste songwriting style or go right for the extreme shock factor. They all use cheap attempts at humor as a compositional vice. Very childish and mall gothish approach to composition or improvisation. It's stupid music for stupid people.

Perhaps the original poster can offer me some more ORIGINAL alternatives in the same vein as the Melvins, John Zorn or Ween.

Unless he dislikes the half of another quarter. With this guy's math who knows?

IMO, the term itself "Mallgoth" brings bands like AFI and My Chemical Romance to mind.

Precisely. He's confusing the term 'mallgoth' with 'pretentious psuedo intellectual wankers', both equally abhorant for similar reasons based on their ocupancy of opposite ends of the so-called "brow-scale".

92% of the mentioned bands are unknown to most people. The fact that OP knows these bands, proves that he in fact likes/used to like them.
It also proves that he is overweight.
