ive been plowing through seasons 3-7 for the first time in a million years
some of the episodes are so damn funny that its depressing how awful its been for so long since

the one where bart wins an elephant is gold

'he saved my life! and i owe it all to this feisty feline!'
'thats an elephant, dad'

or later on when homer keeps headbutting the animal preserve guy

this stuff holds up extremely well over time
family guy should take note

I really dislike the Simpsons. However, I liked the posters that those developers unveiled where the deforested woods were made to look like paradise. Everything else is base and quite shit.

I used to love the Simpsons when it was new and original, before they re-played all the jokes to death.

Lisa: Dad, don't you think you're overreacting?
Homer: Don't you think you're *under*reacting?
Lisa: This conversation is over.
Homer: This conversation is *under*.
Lisa: Goodbye.
Homer: *bad*bye

I don't dislike the newer episodes.
The Bart fat camp episode with Albert Brooks was great.
And a recent Milhouse episode...also very funny.

I must say, for some masochistic reason, I still download em when they air in the states. I'm not able to judge when it went wrong because its been running 20 Seasons I can only narrow it down to 'old', 'really good', 'still funny', 'this is a worrying trend', 'this is the from the last 5 seasons'.

Every time I go to look at this I'm too drunk. Someone tell me if it's worth while.

It's utter crap. I think the writer says it all in the first few paragraphs;
I should also warn the dedicated readers of Marxist classics, that I know nearly nothing about Marxist analysis of culture, theatre, art, music etc.
It shows, and the entire blog post is superficial and doesn't really come near providing any significant insight into what the poster says (s)he are about to do.

all it does is state the obvious - the simpsons were popular because they were part of the defeated working class, same as everyone else

but that's what 'roseanne' was too, why isnt that still hugely popular?

because the simpsons were the first animated sitcom, which allowed gags to be pushed as far as they possibly could

You can usually tell when a prime-time cartoon is turning into crap when it starts getting political or writing episodes based off of current events. When south Park started getting all Republicany and Simpsons and Family Guy started going all liberal, that's when they all started heading downhill. Never EVER stray away from "Character development". Stupid plot-based episodes.

With that said,

Burns' Lawyer to Homer, "You sir are a Moron!"
Homer, "A Mormon? But I'm not from Mars!?"

It is the one joke I seem to always remember.

"Hello. I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is: No."
