Naomi Watts has always been a poor actress. Those emotional scenes are the bread and butter scenes and most actors would nail those. It's those so called normal scenes where an actor earns their bread. Naomi cannot do nromalcy with any grain of sincerity. Mulholland Drive worked with the haminess because as TB said, it was part of the character. What would have destroyed Mulholland Drive if they placed the character in a scenario before she was jilted. As TB says, it just would not have worked.
