Recent films. A very brief opinion.

I've been watching almost nothing but 4 star Paul Newman movies recently.
I'm spoiled.

Where is the next Paul Newman coming from?
I don't think Johnny Depp or Gary Oldman are up to that.
Christian Bale is close but not quite. He seems a bit forced.
Newman mostly comes off as natural.

Perhaps DiCaprio? Edward Norton? Wahlberg? Downey Jr?

More likely someone whos not that famous, like say Ryan Gosling, Daniel Day Lewis or Ben Foster. Foster also seems a bit forced, but I bet we can look forward to some good roles from him in the future.

Wasn't he supposed to over-act everything though?
But Buscemi would have been better. That's because you can't get better than the best.

I'm always going to have trouble not thinking about him in Six Feet Under. So angsty, in a good contextual kind of way.

I dunno.... maybe. I just had a hard time watching Roth doing comedy. His face and voice didnt fit the role i guess.

Thats what good actors get for starring in great tv-shows. And judging by his career, the guy is already being typecasted. But he's an promising actor, so i bet he will turn it around.

He did well in Alpha Dog.
Even threatened his eyesight by putting some sort of drops in his eyes to dilate his pupils.

I threatened my eyesight by getting Lasik. Twice.
No one paid me a million dollars.
I even had a camera on me.

They wanted to know if I wanted my family to watch.
I told them no.

Foster did very well in Alpha Dog. He made me wanna be a neo-nazi. I quite liked that movie.

I have no photos of my lasik surgeries.
I could ask my parents for photos of me in glasses.
And then show you the afters.
But they're shit at computers. I just got my mother to understand emails a few years ago.
All she sends me is right wing prayer shit.

I think after my last call home I've gotten her to stop.
Then again I've made these calls before.

DiCaprio - can't stand him
Norton - shot his load early
Wahlberg - terrible
Downey Jr - becoming an icon at last

But mate, the one thing that LEPT out at me was what you said about Daniel Day Lewis being "not that famous".

What were you thinking???

He is famous, but not that famous. At least not in the United States. He is not the blockbuster type. Or maybe he is famous, but just not over here. What do I know. Norway sucks anyway.

Oh and Wahlberg is not terrible goddammit!

Di Caprio and Walberg are very good in my onions. I like Downey Jr but it's most definitely not because of his acting ability because he's quite crap. He is nowhere near as good as the hype would suggest.

The Wayne Gale role from Natural Born Killers is a classic. But his big role is probably portraying Chaplin. He was great in it!
But I often judge him (and others) by his face and appearance. Without sounding gay, there is just something about him that I like.

I liked The Happening. Some of the acting was pretty over the top but it fit with the whole b-movie vibe. Some seriously creepy death scenes made it all worth it.
