No. It's good.
Presentation: 33cl custom shorty with a bulbed neck. Best before date: 03/2003. Serve chilled.
Appearance: Cloudy (from escaped yeast) and pale. A grande creamy, chunk head adorns the top and sticks with great stay. The colour and head are perfection incarnate.
Smell: Delicate spice, pepper and clean malt sweetness.
Taste: Smooth and extremely creamy on the palate. A lively carbonation creates a light mouthfeel and crispness. Upfront flavours are bitter and sweet, with a lean on the sweet; distinct fruity malt esters, bold spiciness and rind-like twang that mellows and balances. Finishes slightly grain/dry with some residual spice and dextrin notes.
Notes: Deceivingly seductive and powerful. It lurs you with mesmerizing eye candy, then as the absolute refresher, then whacks the shite out of you with an 8.5% abv club. It's not called the "Devil" for nothing.
One of the best beers on the face of the Earth. Bow down to this god of beers.

I don't think you realise the implications of what you are suggesting. All you can say for certain is that some people like the taste of the beer. There is no inherent goodness to the product. To describe Dubel as delicate is a joke. It has a forceful, almost over perfumed chemical, just because that beer site says it's "good" does not (cannot) make it so.
AMG rates some truly disastrous music as "good", do you also hold them up as a music bible as you do with the beer site? I think not.
I would explain subjectivism to you but that would almost be as insulting you implying ANYTHING is good.
Again, I stand firmly behind the following:

I should clarify that 896 people have reviewed the beer, and it's cumulative score is the 77th highest in their entire database, which includes god knows how many thousands of beers.Nam Tsao";p="853675 wrote:I don't think you realise the implications of what you are suggesting. Additionally, there are plenty of NON-SUBJECTIVE categories that beer is rated on: http://www.bjcp.org/2004_BJCP_Guidelines.pdf
Duvel clearly excels in it's style...
I don't know. I'm not as much of a believer in subjectivity as I once was. It's a massive factor, but it's not the only factor. Duvel is one of those things that's widely considered a "classic" or whatever by the majority of informed individuals... the fact that you don't like it is understandable, but I think there's enough reason to say that, yes, it is a very good beer.

Ummm... what would be the point of not posting it?

The point was to explain my views on subjectivity in general and Duvel in specific, which I had not yet done to my satisfaction.

You're the reason for my chronically low self-esteem, Shaina. I hope you're happy with yourself. I'm certainly not.
