What are you?

Post by Cottage Wonder »

Not a recipe thread but food related nonetheless...

Who here is vegan? Vegetarian? I am leaning towards being a vegetarian lately, I really only eat chicken once in a while now, but I don't think I could ever give it up, it's too damn good! I am kinda trying though.... kinda....

If you're vegan or vegetarian, hook me up with good vegan or vegetarian dishes!

Not only is meat bad for you, it's bad for the environment as well. Plus, I do feel bad eating defenceless animals, I just feel better when I don't eat meat.

I just love chicken and turkey so much, I've managed to cut out all other meat which is a good start. I don't think I could go all the way and be a vegetarian due to my love of chicken, plus I don't want to limit myself, in case I do get a craving for meat.

I'm glad more and more people are doing it, we need a healthier world.

I don't know if I could be vegan. But I feel if Im not gonna eat meat, why eat things taken from animals?

I don't even like tofu so I think if I was a vegetarian it wouldn't be too much fun...

Tofu is simply fucking horrible. I eat Quorn pieces. marinades, spicesand sauces become your best friend.

I've been vegamatarian since 1996, I've not missed meat at all.I eat stir fries, curries, pasta's, pizzas, pies, sausages whatever. In the UK, being a vegetarian is very easy because of meat alternatives. I hate most vegetables, but the thought of eating meat actually made my stomache turn. Also I had a problem with my heart and didn't like the taste much...this was on top of ethical and envoronmental reasons not to eat meat.

I know there are a ton of vegetarian dishes I would love but I have to find them all and enjoy enough of them for me to give up meat forever.

i was a veggie for the first 12 years of my life

after experimenting with meat i now only eat chicken and bacon.
i thought i was a vegiterian because of morals but i realised that its all part of the food chain, animals eat animals, animals eat us, we eat animals and we have done since the human race began

its human nature

I know, it is human nature, but I think if we can live without killing and torturing animals, we might as well do it.

Why pretend we are part of naturewhen we spend most of our time, energy and research into divorcing ourselves from it?

I find the "food chain" argument contradictory on many levels.

I'm lucky. There's a market near my work that sells meat from "animal friendly" places. The cows live long lives, grazing, and enjoying all the perks of being a "moo moo." The eggs are laid from chickens that have plenty of room in the coop and lots of land to roam on. They spend more money to insure that the kill is quick and painless as possible. They do it in a way that very little fear hormone is released into the meat.

It's more expensive, but it's the only meat I'll buy.
It tastes better. The animals are only losing a few years off of their lives, and I feel better about it. I can't live without meat very easily. Even if I eat a perfectly balanced vegan diet, I start bruising and get very weak if I don't eat meat (red meat in particular) on occasion.

Maybe that balance will work for you until you are ready to make the leap. If you go total vegan, you need to buy some nutrition books to make sure you eat properly. I eat meat about once a week. I don't do dairy much at all anymore. Since I quit it, my asthma is better and my skin is clearer. I fall from grace and have ice cream every now and then, though.

I enjoy many veggie foods. I'll list my favorite cook books, when I get home, to get you started. How advanced of a cook are you? Are you someone that likes to spend time preparing a meal or do you like to be quick about it? My recommendations will be based on that.

we got those "animal friendly" shops here too. we call it happy meat.
it does taste much better and it just feels good knowing you're helping
these animals lead a better life. i dont eat happy meat all the time cos
the shop aint just around the corner. i hope that soon this happy meat
will be turn into a standart thing. fuck cheap, if you cant affort this kinda
meat everyday then you should just eat a little less of it. no biggie!

I help animals lead an even better life. ...not strictly true, they die for nothing because of people like me. HA!

Modern cows, pigs and chicken need to be all killed, they're genetic freaks and hormone fed mutants. They have no place on this planet.
