Just watched "The Bridge" last night. It's a simple doc about people that jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Nothing that's eye opening and it is sort of like a so-so version of "Faces Of Death"

One of the jumpers that they showed a lot looked just like Jim Martin

Turning a slur sprayed on her VW Beetle from scarlet letters into a badge of honor, Sage College grad student Erin Davies hit the road in her rechristened "fagbug" to raise awareness of gay rights and to speak where others had been silenced. The resulting documentary captures a 58-day cross-continental trip in which Davies interviews 400 people, discovers the virulence of hate crimes and records reactions to her queerly customized ride.

Through interviews with would-be lyricists and composers, this fascinating documentary examines the eccentrics who, in response to ads in the backs of magazines, send their heartfelt poems (and a large fee) to be made into hit songs -- hopefully. What few of these fearless aspiring artists realize, however, is that of the estimated 200,000 songs that have been concocted by this mail-order method, not one has ever been a hit.

just finished watching this one. LOLtastic experience.
made me want to finish all of my half written songs.
and the extras, (one in particular) oh man, tim and ericERRIFIC!!!

This heartwarming yet at-times disturbing "shockumentary" follows a few days in the life of Jeff, a beer-drinking, porno-consuming wrestling fanatic with Down Syndrome. Living in squalor with his elderly, wheelchair-bound foster mom -- who pins their future hopes on winning the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes -- Jeff simply goes about his daily existence, which includes petty theft, bum-rushing celebrities and fondling women.

got this puppy locked & loaded in the queue.

Over the course of three years, filmmaker Meghan Eckman tracked the comings and goings of a solitary parking lot in Charlottesville, Va., chronicling the lives of the attendants who were working there. This inspiring documentary is the result. Hanging tough as they navigate the range of human emotion -- from hope to frustration, from a sense of limitless possibilities to stagnation -- the film's subjects embody the pursuit of the American Dream.

upon watching this, roberta says to me "I think you found your calling".
I think she is right.

I loved it, mainly because of all the great footage of the Golden Gate Brigde, which is pretty much my favorite construction in the whole world.
I like bridges in general, but the Golden Gate is truly special. I envy all of those who live nearby, that can wake up in the morning and see the Golden Gate from their windows.

Yeah, thats a little off topic...

Continue.

Dear Zachery would have been really well done if they didn't try to hammer the story in with the camera tricks.
Crazy story though

watched a short documentary on this guy yesterday:

Image

Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins

Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins was the most prolific serial killer in South Carolina history. Once his brutality was unleashed, he knew no boundaries, torturing, killing, cannibalizing victims, both male and female. In his taped memoirs for the book, Final Truth by author Wilton Earl, Gaskins said, 'I have walked the same path as God, by taking lives and making others afraid, I became God's equal. Through killing others, I became my own master. Through my own power I come to my own redemption..'

his daughter was talking throughout. telling stories. pee wee was cremated due to the fact that
people/"satan worshippers" wanted to steal his body because the believed he was the son of satan.

I like this type of thing.

Absolutely boring. I was hoping to see his stand up but got an hour an a half of a guy bitching because he has to meet and greet his millions of fans.
Also, I 90% hate it when comedians put music in their acts and pretty much all we did see of the Conan tour was his really bland rocking numbers.

Some good parts but it could have been about 20 minutes.

The People vs. George Lucas
2009 NR 97 minutes
Building a balanced but spirited case without taking sides, Swiss filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe sets up the decades-old conflict between Star Wars director (and writer and producer) George Lucas and his legions of passionate fans. A "participatory documentary," the film includes the usual mix of interviews but blends them with various fan films that were submitted online, resulting in an unusually democratic final cut.

In this riveting documentary, Daniel Lutz discusses what happened in 1975 when his family was plagued by supernatural happenings at the notorious Amityville house in Long Island. Psychologists, reporters and eyewitnesses examine Daniel's testimony.

I've heard some of this stuff plenty of times...
but it was interesting hearing daniel tell the stories.
the guy has really developed a shell around himself.

not that I blame him.

I've been on the docco binge lately. Mostly of the flavour "people who take incredibly inconsequential things insanely seriously".

Please forgive if already posted.

I Think We're Alone Now - Following two insane superfans of the pop sensation Tiffany.
The Dungeon Masters - Follows 5 D&D fans
American Juggalo - Only short, but goddamn, prepare the radox and razorblades.

Theres two doccos on Bronies out there, ones call 'friendship is magic' and the other has a retardedly long title I can't be bothered looking up. Just watch Friendship is magic. They're like autistic juggalos.

We Steal Secrets - The Wikileaks docco. Tis what it is. Interesting I guess.
Any documentary made by Jason Scott (maintainer of textfiles.org/internetarchive.org). He's done the history of text adventures, the history of Defcon, another one I'm forgetting and an insanely long history of BBS's which is tantamount to a Ken Burns documentary series in length, but what I saw was fascinating. Id also recommend his symposiums at various conferences, all very histrionic looks at interesting facets of technology. The History of Software Piracy traces it back to loom patterns for instance.

Monster Road - Docco about a claymation artist, awesome stuff, forget his name.
Ecstacy of Order - Think King of Kong but about Tetris and everyone is lovely.
Word Wars - Scrabble docco. Must watch if only for the black dude from baltimore who acts like a straight up gangsta cornerboy.
Ghengis Blues (you've all seen this by now yeah?). Blind black blues guitarist goes to Tuva to compete in a throat singing tournament
Nazi Pop Twins - about those gorgeous lil Aryan goddesses Prussian Blue from that Louis Theroux docco. Another British journo goes and interviews them a few years on
Overnight - Follows the making of 'Boondock Saints' and the rise and fall of the stupidest cuntiest director ever.

Fairly well for Aussies Only:
Persocution Blues - Battle for The Tote -- About the horrible closure of one of Melbourne's most iconic rock venues
Autoluminescent - Documentary on late guitarist Roland S Howard.

...both those make me cry every time.

And as always, anything and everything Herzog.

Missed a bunch, but thats what I could come up with in 20 mins.
'the fuck did I do?
