I have to admit that Spaceballs still cracks me up. Particularly the inexplicably effeminate performance of Stephen 'These are not them! You've captured their stunt doubles!' Tobolowsky.

parts of that movie are downright inspired,
like the part where they're watching the movie to see what to do next.

Sunshine is a pretty good science fiction movie. Some excellent visuals and sound design.

i was stoked about it too , till i watched it , did i miss something . thought it was terrible . the monster,,What the fuck ? lets have an original idea here guys . dont getme wrong i thought it had great potential , the sets , fx , sound was awesome , but the characters and story ???? it really left me wanting some decent sci fi , so i watched the time machine (1960) and then the next day the remake (2002) . remake was silly , suprise surprise . its politically correct future was a real drag . what king of lion king bullshit tribe was that ? at least edgar winter was a good bad guy . i like how the main dude just forgets about his lost love , one day and 5 minutes of conversation with the native girl . that made sense . :borg:
the finished product is just the garbage left over from doing the work.

yes, the story was pretty dumb
but who says a sci-fi movie has to have a watertight story?
and the "monster" was simply the captain of the old Icarus, deranged and burnt.

yeah i hear ya , it just seemed like that movie shot itself in the foot , it had everything going for it , exept good characters , dialog , and a decent resolution .
the finished product is just the garbage left over from doing the work.

I thought the ending was pretty good.
It's really the only way the story could've resolved,
without being anticlimactic.

As much as I enjoyed Sunshine, I take exception to the 'cold space' bullshit that seems to permeate this type of film. As close as they were to the sun, the real threat was getting roasted if they're not behind the mirrors when they moved from one ship to the other. Not to mention their eyes boiling nearly instantly if they're open, but this would be because they're in a vacuum, not because of the proximity of the sun. See Event Horizon for a more realistic depiction of what can happen to a human body exposed to space.

Hot Rod was arguably the funniest movie to come out last year.

That is a sincere statement.

Hot Rod is next in my queue.

Andy Samberg & Lonely Island also have the funniest comedy rap album (ever?). Constant rotation at my place.

Sunshine reminded me a lot of Event Horizon. A lot of the same tricks were used. A lot of the story was more or less the same.

Spaceballs is about as good as the rest of Mel Brooks' movies...

...which is to say that it's utter detritus.

Well, sure, except one's about nuking the sun to restart it, and the other's about a ship with an experimental gravity drive that opens a hole in spacetime into a chaos dimension.
