Deep South Biscuits

Post by gel cacepi »

4 cups self-rising flour
1 tbs. sugar
1 tbs. baking powder
1 1/3 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup lard
pinch of salt

Melt 1 tbs. butter to brush on top.

Grease pan with lard.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix dry ingredients then mix lard until dough is crumbly. Form a well in the center and gradually add buttermilk while you stir with a fork. Add a small amount of flour until dough is no longer sticky, but don't over work dough. Flour table, roll out dough at a 1/4 inch thickness or form each biscuit by hand. Brush tops with melted butter.
Bake for 15 minutes then broil on high for 5.
