Synecdoche, New York
This could quite possibly be the most ambitious thing Charlie Kaufman has ever put his name on, and a hell of a directorial debut.
Imagine all the nesting storylines in Adaptation being a mere fraction of a much larger framing narrative, and you're getting close. This movie had elements to it that I look for in fiction. Excellent acting all around, especially Philip Seymour Hoffman, who BELONGS in the role of a Kaufman-written everyman.
Absolutely mindblowing. Just when you think the film can't go any further, it pushes forth to a perfect ending.
See it.
Twice.

It's pretty heavy, that's for sure.
But it's not without its laughs.

Re: Synecdoche, New York
finally saw it that second time, this time on DVD.
I have no idea how this went completely ignored by the Academy.
If nothing else, it deserved a nomination for best original screenplay.
Watch how much time passes, in the film, within the first ten minutes of viewing.
And keep an eye out for Sammy.
Mindblowing.

Re: Synecdoche, New York
gotcha
i like how this movie got trippy with no special effects
been awhile since i've seen one like that
and speaking of those types of films
can anyone throw out a few other films, modern films, that get out there with no cgi?

I finally saw this today.
I'm glad that I watched it. And- I am glad that I watched it alone.
