Kurosawa > Ford > Scorsese > Hardon.
In fact Searchers offers the bones for Taxi Driver. Some label Taxi Driver as a remake...but it's nowhere near truth, but both Star Wars Episode 4 and taxi Driver owe a heck of a lot from The Searchers with Lucas, Ford and Scorsese owing a hell of a lot to Kurosawa.
Still I wouldn't label Star Wars Episode IV a Western, but it does apply many of the conventions, albeit impure and straying wildly from the basic formula. Taxi Driver, both thematically and structurally is only different because of aesthetics (superficial).

Star Wars Episode IV steals quite liberally from Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress.Eviltoastman";p="947553 wrote:Still I wouldn't label Star Wars Episode IV a Western

okay so we've definetly established kurosawa's movies have a lot of influence in westerns and star wars.
on the other hand i don't know if i posted that i saw lost highway which i liked a lot more than eraserhead its a classic example of his work where a poor writer will describe the movie "Lynchian"
