Yes, they witnessed you typing more than one, single, derogatory sentence in a bunglefever post.

I Abso-fucking-loved this book. Starts with a great premise (The death of president harding and the various controversies he was involved in), then constructs a 600 odd page book around Carter The Great's involvement in it as well as back into his life and career. My review won't do it justice. Really good read, couldn't put it down.

Kristen got these awesome pulp 80's crossdresser novels from some porn shop. Great bathroom reading. The middle of this one was pretty hysterical but it ended with a whimper

if they don't already have it, the movie grand prix starring james gardner is fucking awesome. especially if they happen to be into cinematography. lots of great extras on the dvd.

books... that's a little tough. there are so many. most of them shit. i've actually been looking for a good historical account of the roots of f1 and haven't found much. i'll let you know if i ever see anything that's a must have.

i like this book:

but i'm biased.

Lame...What a letdown after "His Victorian Secret"...I had to quit before I was halfway done
The cover is pretty rad and I've been living at a hotel for the past two months and this is a great one to keep in the bathroom for the cleaning ladies to find

The framing device of that book is mindblowing.

Slogging through Middlesex. Sometiems I like it, other times it's completely tedious, depends on the mood.

if you remove 'middle' from that statement you come off as a very disturbed person.

Just finished Perfume by Patrick Suskind - absolutely glorious read. Dark and funny, very richly dramatised stark view of what a bunch of dumb, useless, stench-riddled fucks humans are.

Sort of like L'Etranger with Old Spice.

Until I read that I thought Wil Self was someone else completely. Now I'm sad.

I'm reading a Warhammer universe novel.

Yeah, it's come to that.

Before that, though, I read "Dopeland" and "The Red Tent".

Also noteworthy by Suskind is a wee little short story paperback called The Double-Bass.

Its the paranoid/egotistical rantings of a double-bass player in an orchestra. Only about 50 pages long (if that) from memory, but enjoyable none the less.

it's directed by a German, too. probably problematic right there.
I thought it was fascinating though.

It was visually quite stunning and I was happy to see the final scene play out just how I'd imagined it.

Black Swan: sucked.
Lame, boring, predictable. Natalie Portman way too bony and annoying to be cute anymore. Basically the film is a cluster of cliches (ooh, horny Frenchmen, repressed single moms, catty feminine bitchiness etc), and I can't fathom why it's getting such praise. A film about ballet should not stumble around so clumsily, or maybe that was the point...the modernist take on ballet, an artform which can no longer have a place in our disjointed society, or some such gobshite.
