Well, like a lot of others, you waste time on shit like Jackass and Borat, so I don't feel the need to get too far into this discussion.

You better not be comparing yourself to the cloonster.

Or sidig el fadil for that matter.

Those are funny movies that I can watch without using my brain. (Except when buying the ticket).

While watching Syriana, something died inside of me... It was really really boring in my opinion. What, so you like this movie?

I bet I could watch 4 Fellini flicks in one day! Could YOU? :P

I rarely watch more than one film in one day (unless I'm on a fucking long-haul flight).
It ruins the whole experience for me. I learnt this a long time ago.

I couldn't really give you a blow by blow account of why I like Syriana right now, because it's been a while. Definitely wasn't bored by it though.

I dont know dude... It was like, "hey lets make some heavy political shit, with terror and stuff since its kinda popular these days, that will probably give us an academy award". "Hey, George... Grow a beard and gain some weight, that way people will respekt you as an good actor, and not as the cool gray haired guy you are". "Lets also add Matt Damon, just to make the whole thing a bit slower".

Okay, that was a shitty review, and I didnt really felt that way... I just wrote it to be cool. But I really thought it was boring... Thats why I wrote "Zzzz". And dont judge me for the Jackass and Borat thing... Deep inside they are both smarter movies than Syriana!

I stand by this statement... Think about it. They make controvercy. People talk about these movies. That Cohen dude is clever and gifted as fuck. Probably a lot viser than most of the guys he is interviewing. And they think he is the dumbest guy on earth. Brilliant!
The Jackass boys knows just which buttons to push. Like the movie trailer for instance; It has a voiceover of famous film critics butching the first film. They are turning us (the people) against the snobs, and its a argument that its not the quality that is crucial, but the laughter. They are talking to the average guy's private feelings, and win by making people laugh all the way home from the cinema. Maybe not intellingent, but damn clever!

wrong use of the word "crucial" there... Iam mean more like "in the end", or "at the end of the day", if you like...

You dig?

Sasha Baron Cohen's comedy is extremely base. There's no skill in making dumb people look like dumb people on film.

Anyway I finally watched Good Night & Good Luck last night. Never realised how much of a god Ed Murrow was.

One I don't think I've mentioned yet:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0396688/

The King.

Quite understated yet compelling, never tries to do more than it achieves, succinct and very enthralling. William Hurt puts on a good performance, as do the rest of the cast. Try to stay away from reviews, just so not too much is given away. Sufficive to say, its a bit of a revenge story set in the falsetto wholesomeness of suburban evangelism.

Eli, most people can't watch heavy films all the time.
You need a break in the action.
Movies are an escape.

For me Jackass got old very quickly.
Cohen is a bit more cerebral than that.
If you're stupid you wouldn't get why Borat is so stupid.

The best film I saw in 2005 was Spongebob The Movie. I think that JM is suffering from what I suffered a while back. I felt incapable of enjoying mainstream cinema. I'm over it now. Same with music. Most media I enjoy is just off mainstream with frequent dips into art/avant/experimental...but to be honest I detest arthouse and avant as much as commercial cinema. It's an antithesis not a solution in my view.

The way he improvises and react to peoples answers, is sometimes pure genious! He dont know what they are about to say, and then within seconds after they say it, he has some bizarre answer to that...
And you can tell that he has done lots of research on the subjects...

I started watching this on tv last night but left the room after the first commercial. When I came back a half hour later and watched some more I really regretted not staying to watch it all.

I've always been a fan of stupidly funny movies. In moderation, they are good for your brain.

Where The Truth Lies: confirmed that I don't rate Atom Egoyan, despite Kevin Bacon being awesome and Colin Firth being raised in my expectations. Evidently, Alison Lohman can't act, though I may reserve my judgement for reasons of shit direction.
