A film about a book about how Steve Martin saw Lost In Translation and decided to rewrite it drawing on his experience from the film Roxanne? Just a guess here.

I don';t mind which cam first. I just have a reference point (Lost In Translation). What would be useful is if someone came up with a reference point then someone else who might have seen the films compares the two looking at similarities and differences. I think this thinking is too avant garde though.

but you did say one was derivative of the other
and one cannot be derivative of something that comes after it.
