the best/most satisfying/mind blowing show that you have ever witnessed...

do your best to talk about it here.
your opinion obviously has not a square dime to connect with mine.
none the less... connect with something.

i'll add a couple more to hopefully get a convo going.

i went to a cardigans + liz phair show when i was 17. i felt really inadequate being a 17 year old guy going to a cardigans/lizphair all chick lineup. anyways, i meet these two really attractive twenty something year old girls. they talked and danced with me teh whole night. they kept offering to buy me drinks and to spend the night at their house! this wouldnt be the biggest deal except i was 17 at the time (i wasnt much of a poon catcher in high school), so i thought it was EPIC.

i'll probably get flamed for this since this board is mostly dislikes them, but i went to an awesome incubus show at the echoplex. it was a "secret show" they announced it the day before and it was only $15 to get in. it was awesome to see them in such a small venue (holds 600 max) considering they can sell out the hollywood bowl. but the best part of the show was that it was very science/make yourself/ rare tracks heavy... incubus + small venue + mostly early era songs = awesomeness. only negative part was that i got in trouble with the girlfriend cuz a picture came up on facebook with my friend and i posing with two attractive chicks who we met and were talking to...

SC3 and sleepytime in la...... during SC3 set some dude next to my friend and I was hip hopping dancing the whole time. he must have been tripping on something, and it was really distracting me as i was really high. so i'm watching some dude hip hop/break dance to SC3 live and i notice a few rows in front of us someone keeps spitting on the ground. i tell my friend, "yo bro, we gets to gets outs of heres" and i force him to move to the other side of the floor with me. i can tell he was annoyed i made him make the move but he was happy to get away from hip hop boy. a few minutes later we notice nobody is to our left, which is where we were previously. there was vomit everywhere, i made the right call.... we are happy as doves then all of a sudden we realize hip hop boy is in front of us again! god damnit.

i'll end this with a request: if anyone has been to a Missing Persons or Failure show can you describe how it was?!?!

I wouldn't worry - all mine are pretty unfashionable...

Crowded House aftershow was one highlight - they played an teeny aftershow gig at the Basement a couple of years ago for family & friends. Neil Finn sat behind the piano playing requests (Beatles, Neil Young, some of his stuff) and various members of the band (and Liam) got up and played when they felt like it until they were too pissed. I was sitting one table away from the stage - fucking amazing.

If/When I remember more details about Peter Gabriel at the first WOMAD and Beta Band at the Liquid Room (1999??) I'll wrote about those too, 'cos those were just brilliant :D

I recall something along the lines of AC/DC/fight/older woman.
am I not too far off?

not so much a show, but a preshow moment bonanza:
chili peppers, smashing pumpkins, and pearl jam. in cleveland.
funky monks tour. my friend gave john frusciante & his girlfriend
a ride back to the concert hall. I was in heaven. I hit john with rapid fire questions galore.
asked him where he got his shoes. "somewhere on hollywood boulevard".
it was a magical moment. the rumors were true, he really did emit a tidal wave of BO aroma.
I drank it in with my tongue hanging out.

sounds awesome, saw crowded house this year... i was really surprised. i'm not the biggest fan of their music (but big Neil Finn fan), but the show was great.

First gig - Prodigy, Glasgow Barrowlands 1996.

Not only one of the best live bands ever, but the best venue and a hilarious progression in the crowd - the ravers were all down the front trying to dance and impress Leeroy, but the metallers took over halfway through and turned the place into a great moshpit, one of the best I've ever been in.

Everything else after that has just been "good", even Bungle (fun set list), Fantomas (musically tight), Tool, Slayer (weirdo-infested crowd), Manics, Antony and the Johnsons, Neil Young, Killing Joke, Muse (great lasers!), Napalm Death ( ), numerous T in the Park festival shows, NIN (3 times) or FNM or god knows what other bands I've seen haven't come anywhere near close to blowing my brains out like that gig.

I didn't fucking sleep after that Prodge show. No drugs, few beers, just pure fucking enjoyment. Just lay there in my hotel room, buzzing like fuck, everything aching. Pretty much set the standard for any other gig afterwards.

I've got a billion of em, but...

Carcass & Death @ the Country Club (LA) in 88/89. There were about 600 opening bands. Carcass finally came on and killed. It took an hour for Death to set up. They finally come on stage in a shit mood, play for about 15 minutes, and then just leave...no 'thank you,' no 'fuck you'...nothing. The lights come on, and the crowd goes ballistic...throwing chairs, smashing bottles, beating security guards....There was a human chain of security on the stage trying to keep people away from the equipment...one of the dude's heads just exploded when he got pegged with a flying bottle...blood everywhere. I saw 3 guys with pieces of chairs reducing the sound board to dust. The crowd finally spilled out into the street...smashing windows, starting fires...total chaos. The cops showed up in riot gear, and I got the fuck outta there. a-w-e-s-o-m-e.

a great show that didn't happen...

one man army
D.I.
anti-heros

i was waiting in line outside (dumb, i was on the guest list and could have walked right in) at the berkeley square.
this sexy little punk girl bummed a smoke off me, we ended up dating for a few years. she was the first girlfriend i put in a mental institute.
me, my buddy, and that girl were almost up to the door when three boneheads come running outside, bleeding profusely from their skulls.
apparently, they went to the show with the intention of beating up this one particular guy. he was eating dinner inside, he saw them coming, he picked up his fork and stabbed all of them in the top of the head.

police showed up.
show was cancelled.
berkeley square closed it's doors a few weeks later.

i ended up drinking all night with the anti heros. complete assholes, but they paid for the booze.

more stories later... including, perhaps, the story of how i got on the guest list for the show above.

I went to see the very awesome Dirty Dozen Brass Band in my hometown of Raleigh.

We showed up kinda late and whatnot @ the end of the 1st set. I noticed my old friend/bandmate Jake Eckert was playing guitar with them. We got up at set break and I played percussion (multi-guiro, claves, shaker, triangle) with them for the entire 2nd set and encore. I'm a badass like that. I eat shit for breakfast.

Well, I'm not terribly into their music apart from "Mutter", but Rammstein's headline show at the Big Day Out in Sydney in <<insert year>> was the most entertaining show I've ever seen.

- Dudes got bloody in the "mosh". We encountered several bleeding crowd members, all exiting the front-and-centre with great urgency... and blood.
- Lead singer had a dildo flamethrower.
- Bassist got into an inflatable watercraft and crowd-surfed upon it for a satisfactory period of time.
- Lead singer wore a coat of.... flames. A COAT OF FLAMES. He also had a cybernetic laser eye, with which he perused the crowd, seeking sacrifices.
- Lead singer shot a flaming arrow from a longbow into a sound tower which was thereafter aflame.
- Lead singer prayed to heathen gods for rain, which may or may not have actually arrived at his request, depending on how much I consider whether what I saw was the result of hallucinogenic drugs or not.
- Climax/finale of set was accompanied by the disappearance of the band within a wreath of smoke, which then cleared, to reveal a sole, flaming microphone in the middle of the stage.

There were lots of flames. That's all I'm sayin'.

well damn, how could I forget the fact that 1993 brought me the adventure that is
witnessing gg allin live. yes, on his last tour. it was at a hole in the wall bar called
"the penguin pub" in youngstown ohio and it was the first stop on the tour.
there was no urine flow or feces flying, but there was violence/destruction galore.
some guy threw a bottle and hit gg in the chest as soon as he hit the stage, he retaliated
by throwing the entire mic stand into the crowd and the guy was escorted out by 3 or 4 bouncers.
throughout the course of the show, gg grabbed a guy's camera and threw it, punched people,
pulled hair, got up on the bar and threw beer glasses, etc. the band was borrowing a drum kit,
one of which gg ended up falling into and disassembling via throwing pieces of it.
I have a copy of this show on vhs. crazy thing is... it looks tame in comparison to some
of the others I've got on video. sure didn't feel tame at the time.

I know alfred witnessed the man back in the day as well (in the late 80's).
in detroit I believe. am I right, alfred? you should share that story.

that was something I will never forget.
something I am glad that I got the opportunity to behold.
