I've heard this reasoning before and still laugh at it.

Final Fantasy VII and XII are amazing titles

It's almost as if people beleive that they're part of one cohesive mythological universe or something.

Remembering just now, I quite like FFIX as well...

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - Hmm, disappointingly dumbed down (story-wise) for Nintendo audiences, but that is to be expected I guess. Fairly entertaining, but not a patch on the original.

You've really got to do something about your content when you're designing a game for a core audience too simple to comprehend anything with more that two buttons. These people also operate automatic cars.

I got FF Revenant Wings for my DS.
It's like watching a shit cartoon from the 70s, whilst operating a stylophone to play "twinkle twinkle little star".

I FOUND a Hammer at a train station once.
It was one of those tiny hammer's, JUST big enough to hammer in a small nail.
The train station was near my friends new place, so I gave it to them as a housewarming present.
They laughed at it, but i really liked that hammer :(

Why would you buy a less than quality Final Fantasy offshoot when you dislike the far superior original series?

By the way, has anyone played the new Aliens VS Predator?
I've been waiting years for a decent version of this concept. In any form.

Played the 360 version. Not that good, John. It's the best Alien franchise game by a mile, but this doesn't really mean that much. It's not a terrible game but when compared to the many absolutely first class shooters out there it cannot compete.

Bugger.
My friend in "Game" here in Edinburgh, who looks like Julianne Moore and plays everything, says best way is to play as the Alien, as the Marine game is like Doom 3 - i.e dark until you shine a torch.
:?

Every play Alien 3 on the SNES? That was nice. There was a PSone Alien FPS too that I remember being ok, all I ever wanted was a next-gen update on that TBH.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Snes Alien 3. it was excellent in fact, but doesn't really stand up on its own legs today. The PSone FPS was also good at the time but was quickly superceded by games like Disruptor and Duke Nukem.

Ahh, Disruptor rocked!
Remember when all those old PS1 games had all that delightfully cheesy FMV?

Unfortunately yes and in many cases, it lingers today...

A good mate of mine and I are generally of the opinion that consoles have not leapt as far forward since the PSone/Dreamcast generation.

i.e There was a definite sense of 3D, or console games being as capable as PCs then, since which, we have only seen cosmetic improvements in graphics and more focus on narrative.

Take "Heavy Rain" for instance, does anyone else get the "interactive story" sense from reviews and trailers that I get, a la Dragon's Lair?

I need to get my "my ideal game would be..." hat on.

Well the interactive story thing has been exploited far more recently and successfully by Bioware with the following games:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Jade Empire
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2

However these games did employ quite a lot of rpg elements and character developement not strictly linked to your narrative choices.

I did enjoy Mass Effect before I switched to PS3.
But Fallout3 supercedes it, did I tell you I still play that, despite being on 30XP and not quite finished Broken Steel (again) yet?

I recently got Wolfenstein 3D and Fary Cry2. Touched the former game twice. I am completely absorbed in post-apocalyptic DC.

Speaking of post apocalyptic DC, I finished MW2 on veteran difficulty yesterday. it was easier and far more enjoyable that I first gave it credit for.

I've avoided that.
After the amount of real-life time I wasted on Grand Theft Auto 4 multiplayer, I figured MW's online would finish my attempts at avoiding a middle-aged spread for sure...

These days I play a little fallout, then go out skipping with the bunnies in the flower beds on the big green hill.

Anybody going to get God of War 3? I haven't played any of the previous games but apparently they were tip top...
