Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- U.S. officials in Pakistan were allowed to meet Thursday with an American arrested while on a mission to hunt down Osama bin Laden, an embassy spokesman said.

U.S. officials withheld identification because no privacy act waiver had been signed. But Pakistani police and intelligence officials say the individual is Gary Faulkner, who was arrested in northern Pakistan on Sunday.

Faulkner, 50, was detained after he was stopped near the border with Afghanistan's Nuristan province, Pakistani police said. He was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian books.

Faulkner told police that he had been looking for bin Laden since al Qaeda's September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.

The U.S. State Department is offering a reward of up to $25 million in return for information leading to bin Laden's arrest.

The California-born independent contractor has lived in Colorado since 1968, according to his brother Scott Faulkner.

Gary Faulkner did not think the U.S. government was doing enough to bring bin Laden to justice, "and he felt that he was, as a Christian, not afraid -- that he could boldly step out and that doors would be opened for him," Scott Faulkner said.

Police said an 81-year-old man was arrested after he chased another man around a Salem taco stand while armed with a machete. Salem police said Monday the man accused the taco stand owner of stealing a drill from his nearby business. When the taco stand owner denied it, the suspect left and returned with a machete.

Lt. Dave Okada said the suspect chased the unidentified man around the stand several times before officers arrested him on accusations of menacing and attempted assault. He was booked into the Marion County Jail.

There were no injuries in Sunday's incident.

Man Dead After Confronting Troopers With Sword, Weapons

Saturday, January 08, 2011
Robert Lang

Maryland State Police say a man was fatally wounded after he confronted a pair of state troopers with swords and what appeared to be a rifle and a handgun.

The incident occurred Friday night in Elkton.

Troopers say 25-year-old Jason Honaker called troopers at around 9 p.m. asking for police to come to his apartment or else he would kill his neighbor.

When two troopers arrived at the apartment, they were met by Honaker's girlfriend, who said Honaker had been drinking and had a sword and other weapons.

Honaker emerged with a two-foot long sword. Troopers say Honaker was also carrying a sword on his belt and a handgun in his waist band.

Troopers say he repeatedly ignored orders to drop his weapons. Honaker then pulled the second sward from his belt and pointed it at the troopers. He also threw another sword and a rifle at the troopers.

That's when Trooper First Class Matthew Telep shot Honaker.

Troopers then called an ambulance. Honaker later died at Christiana Hospital in Delaware.

Honaker’s girlfriend, who is more than eight months pregnant, told investigators Honaker began drinking vodka late that afternoon and had consumed a pint. Investigators also learned Honaker had been arrested on last month, for assaulting his girlfriend and she had obtained an interim protective order against him. She failed to appear for a hearing on the protective order and the case was dismissed.

The neighbor in the apartment next to Honaker’s told investigators he had gone to Honaker’s apartment and asked him to turn down his loud music. Honaker then came to his apartment and told him if he called the police, it would ‘take seven officers to take him down.’ The neighbor told Honaker he wasn’t calling the police, he just wanted him to turn his music down. He described Honaker as ‘extremely intoxicated’ and said he had to assist him in standing upright when he was talking to him.

Both Telep and the other trooper who responded, Trooper Brian Schweers have been placed on administrative leave.

Telep is a four year veteran of the Maryland State Police and Schweers has been a trooper for two and one-half years.

What's a sward? Is this the right thread for this story?

Sword wielding man smashes car into SA house
13:57 AEST Sun Apr 17 2011

A South Australian man has been arrested after smashing his car into a woman's house and then threatening her with a sword.

A woman in the Barossa Valley town of Lyndoch was woken just before 4am (CST) on Sunday by the sound of a car crashing through the wall of her living room.

The male driver, who was known to the woman, then threatened her with a sword, police said.

Police arrived shortly after and arrested the 32-year-old Willaston man.

He has been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, aggravated assault and property damage.

No-one was injured in the incident, which caused extensive damage to the home.

The suspect has been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

Manatee County man threatened his wife with a sword and shotgun
4/16/11

FLORIDA - Manatee County officials say Thomas Parks, 59, was arguing with his neighbors and later got into a fight with his wife -- threatening her with a sword and a loaded shotgun.

Around 11:00 p.m., deputies arrived at 5224 41st Avenue West after receiving a call from Parks' wife. Deputies say verbal contact was made with Parks and he stated they would have to come in and shoot him in the head. Deputies talked to Parks, who later came out of the house and was arrested without incident (pussy!).

Parks was charged with aggravated domestic assault and barricading himself in his home. Several weapons and firearms were located in the house and removed at the wife's request.

Sword Fight Erupts at NYC Sikh Temple; 7 Charged
Published April 26, 2011
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- A brawl involving cricket bats and small swords at a Sikh temple in New York City has led to riot and assault charges against seven people.

Police say the defendants interrupted prayer services at the Baba Makhan Shah Lubana Sikh Center in Queens on Sunday. They were arraigned Monday.

Temple president Jamail Singh told the Daily News that the fight was instigated by a dissident group of followers who are opposed to opening up membership.

The dispute is at the center of a lawsuit in state Supreme Court.

Some of those arrested Sunday also were charged with disrupting a religious service.

Man slashed with sword in home invasion

A man has been slashed with swords in a home invasion in central western NSW.

The 50-year-old man was at his home in Wellington last night when three people in dark clothing and balaclavas armed with large swords knocked at the door.

When he opened it, they entered the house and struck his head several times with the swords, causing large wounds.

They then ransacked the home, stealing a number of items.

Two Wellington boys have since been charged with special aggravated entering a dwelling with intent to commit a serious indictable offence.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, have been refused bail and are due to appear at Dubbo Local Court today.

NY man pleads guilty in 2005 samurai sword slaying
The Associated Press

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- A man about to start a second trial for the 2005 samurai sword slaying of his sleeping stepfather, whom he had accused of sexually molesting him, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter.
Zachary Gibian, 24, will be sentenced later this month to 25 years in prison, the Suffolk County district attorney's office said.
Gibian had been convicted of nearly beheading Scott Nager, a retired New York Police Department officer, as he slept on a couch at home in Hauppauge, on Long Island, but the state's highest court sided with an appeals court and ordered a new trial. It faulted the trial judge for not allowing testimony about statements made by Gibian's mother.

Samurai Sword-Wielding, Bin Laden Hunter Wants Piece of Reward
May 3, 2011

The samurai sword-wielding American who made headlines the world over for his dogged, if unusual, one-man quest to capture Osama bin Laden said he served the al Qaeda leader "up on a platter" to the U.S. government and will ask today for a portion of the $27 million reward following bin Laden's death Sunday.

"I had a major hand and play in this wonderful thing, getting him out of the mountains and down to the valleys... Someone had to get him out of there. That's where I came in," Gary Faulkner of Greeley, Colorado, told ABC News. "I scared the squirrel out of his hole, he popped his head up and he got capped.

"I'm proud of our boys, I'm very proud of our government... They were handed this opportunity on a platter from myself," he said.

Faulkner found himself in the international spotlight last June when he was detained by Pakistani authorities while trying to cross into Afghanistan during his eleventh attempt to track down the world's most wanted man. He was discovered equipped with a pistol, a samurai sword, night vision goggles and a map. When he was arrested, Faulkner told police he was intent on avenging the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Pakistani authorities said at the time that they laughed when Faulkner told them about his quest. Pakistani officials and doctors questioned Faulkner to determine his mental state. Faulkner's brother told reporters that Faulkner does not have mental problems. He does have an extensive criminal record of minor offenses stretching back to the 1980s.

Though Faulkner has not been mentioned in the government's detailed account of how the CIA painstakingly tracked down bin Laden, he said today that it was the publicity surrounding the June incident that pushed bin Laden out of hiding in the mountains and caves of Afghanistan and into the million-dollar compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Faulkner dismisses U.S. officials who said bin Laden was believed to have lived in the compound for as many as six years.

"He hadn't been living there for no damn six years," Faulkner said. "I absolutely flushed him out."

Faulkner said that his quest to capture bin Laden was never about the money, but now that it's over, he deserves some compensation. The U.S. State Department offered a $25 million reward for information leading to bin Laden's capture through the Rewards for Justice program and an additional $2 million reward was offered by the Airline Pilots Association and the Air Transportation Association.

"It wasn't about me. I wanted to bring him to justice. I'm not greedy, but I sold everything I had and I put my life on the line," he said.

The State Department said it would not comment on whether anyone had asked to receive or had been nominated to receive any or all of the reward. Faulkner said he planned to file for the money; the State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, which administers the Rewards for Justice program, does not accept filings. The U.S. government must nominate an individual to receive all or part of the funds.

Osama bin Laden Hunter Was Planning 12th Attempt

Faulkner said that before he heard news of bin Laden's death, he was in the midst of planning his next mission to the Middle East. While he didn't reveal too many details, he did say this one involved using an ultralight aircraft to come through the "back door" of northern Afghanistan.

"We were gearing up to go back and finish this up," he said.

In previous attempts, Faulkner had tried to use a hang glider to approach bin Laden's suspected cave, but had to call those plans off after disastrous dry runs with the hang glider in Israel.

Now that bin Laden's dead, Faulkner said he's retiring from the bounty hunter business. Instead, he's basking in the glow he feels for what he said was his integral role in bringing the world's most famous terrorist down.

"I'm on cloud nine," he said. "To know that I actually had a hand in this... It was a good marriage of myself, the Pakistani government and our government and now the man has been brought to justice not even a year later. This is sweet."

Sword-wielding bicyclist threatens to cut Santa Clara pedestrian in half
Any way you slice it, this was an unusual reaction: A Santa Clara man riding his bike didn't recognize a pedestrian walking in his neighborhood, so he whipped out a sword and threatened to cut him in half, authorities said Monday.

Santa Clara police said they booked 52-year-old Richard Gonzales into county jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats after they received a rather odd 911 call just after 2 a.m. on Saturday.

When officers arrived in the residential area of the 2000 block of Jackson Court, near City Hall, a man told investigators a bicyclist had threatened him with a sabre sword, Lt. Matt Hogan said. The sabre is known for its long, curved blade and is used in fencing and during military ceremonies.

As officers were interviewing the victim -- who was not hurt -- he told them Gonzales had threatened to cut him in half.

The officers quickly found Gonzales, recovered the sword and arrested him, Hogan said.

"The victim was simply walking down the street," Hogan said. "The suspect made some threatening comment and armed himself with this rather large sword."

The victim and Gonzales did not know each other.

"It appears to be an unprovoked, random act," Hogan said. "We're very pleased the officers were there hurriedly and there were no injuries."

Oddly enough, it's the second sword-wielding suspect that Santa Clara officers have arrested this year.

In the first case, police arrested a different man for driving onto a Lexus dealership and threatening an employee with a sword he pulled out of his car.

Family Members Offer Conflicting Stories After Sword Fight In Uniontown

UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- Uniontown police said a man got into a fight with his brother-in-law on Sunday night and ended up seriously hurt when he was slashed by a sword.

Investigators said the fight happened inside of a home on Cleveland Avenue on Sunday night.

Channel 11's Cara Sapida spoke to the victim's mother on Tuesday, who said the injury was an accident.

"All I know is, I was on the couch watching TV and I heard a commotion and the door flew open and Wayne came running inside and blood was everywhere. I got a towel and tied it around his arm and they hurried up and rushed him to the hospital," said Alicie Lawwill.

Lawwill said her son Wayne Bailey and her daughter's husband got into a fight, but the sword came out later when her daughter was carrying it and tripped.

"She had fallen on the porch and it came out of its case. My son reached for her and it was an accident," said Lawwill.

Lawwill claims that her daughter was carrying the sword because she was putting in the car. Sapida read the Uniontown police report to Lawwill, which has three different accounts of what happened.

"It said Christina reported that her brother Wayne beat him up," Sapida said.

"Well, they were drinking. All three of them," Lawwill said.

Police said the sword severed two main arteries in Bailey's forearm. Officers confiscated the sword that Lawwill said is a 24 inch Civil War artifact. She said the sword belongs to her son-in-law.

"He wanted to take the sword with him. It's a family heirloom; it goes back to the 1800s. I don't think he'll be able to get it back," said Lawwill.

Lawwill said her son has been released from the hospital and is getting sensation back in his fingers. She said no one wants to file charges.

Police said they are still investigating to determine if any charges will be filed.
