I've read Name Of The Rose and a heap of his essays. I'll read Island soonish.

I knew you would say something like that about M&D. I will get to that over Chrissy.

On the slate

Holidays again and I have time to read arse-loads. There's a few ugly, uncreased spines sitting on my shelf that I've picked up over the course of the year that I'm going to try and get through. Anyone have any thoughts on the following, as to which I should consider getting into first? Eco - Island...

Coetzee rocks me. I loved Foe. I had to read for it a class straight after Robinson Crusoe. Probably the best way to enjoy that one. I loved Disgrace as well. I recently learned he is a friend of one of my mum's friends. I just fear if I ever met him I'd just end up making South African jokes. "...

Has anyone read or is going to read Desai's The Inheritance of Loss? I read reviews and see it as another one of those Booker winning, wishy washy descriptions of the cultural loss of the East (hey, India again!) after the havoc wrought by the evil colonialists. Translation - Rushdie clone. I'm will...

I think I might have gotten the same download. It was a bit off.

Just another mob/undercover agent flick with a few nice cameo performances. I wasn't overly impressed, but I didn't really regard it as a waste of time either.

Sasha Baron Cohen's comedy is extremely base. There's no skill in making dumb people look like dumb people on film.

Anyway I finally watched Good Night & Good Luck last night. Never realised how much of a god Ed Murrow was.

I haven't seen History of Violence yet, but I will.

I really loved Crash the book, but the way Cronenberg turned into a tacky gorefest upset me. I did like Existenz though.

Tottenham have always been the rumour-heavy club, because they're one of the biggest clubs in England who always underperform. After a slow start to a season, every player and his dog is linked to them. We've had a very slow start. Now we've got Chimbonda and Malbranque. Steed I'm happy with but Pas...

I've decided to follow the toastman on one of his recommendations: Julian Barnes. Which should I tackle first, England England or History (which I've seen quoted here previously)?
