Re: Recent films. A very brief opinion.

Hard Candy was great. And to think that little girl was Lahey's daughter in Trailer Park Boys all those years ago.

Also points for Blonde Redhead in the closing sequence.

Re: highlight of your day?

Well, it's a pretty lame followup to a post like that.... Our call centre has just started recording calls and the last week has been late night supervisor sessions of listening in on the retarded things some of the operators say. We did however stumble across a couple of recordings of internal call...

http://smallvictories.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/carter-beats-the-devil.jpg I Abso-fucking-loved this book. Starts with a great premise (The death of president harding and the various controversies he was involved in), then constructs a 600 odd page book around Carter The Great's involvement in it...

The Brass Eye of Chris Morris: Bio, no contribution from the man himself, little new info, could have been written with some well placed googling and emailing those who have worked with him for a few opinions. A time-passing holiday read. Just finished that myself. True, not much new or reve...

Making News - Tony Wilson About the son of a prominent british (aussie ex-pat) football player and his family in the wake of his father being caught in a tabloid sex scandal (loosely based on Shane Warne with the two hookers and the giant blow-up phallus). The son starts writing for the paper that ...

This wasn't bad.

Also just watched the Rise and Fall of ECW, which was excellent. It clocks in at just under 3 hours and is extremely comprehensive.

Two more I'll speak highly of: Payback - Margaret Atwood The book based on her BBC lectures on the historical origins of 'debt'. For the most part it is a funny and historical look, rather than a political one. Short, interesting read. The last chapter (basically a greeny reinterpretation of A Chris...

More Bulgarian chicks! (for lack of an accurate term, and I like 'Bulgarian Chicks' to sum up this singing style)

Trio Tzane. Full set here, this song is my pick of the litter.

Just finished the Nancy Mitford Omnibus: The Pursuit of Love Love in a Cold Climate The Blessing Don't Tell Alfred Don't know if its for everyone but I found it hilarious. Very quirky, semi auto-biographical and an interesting insight to 1930s and then post-WWII British and French aristocracy. The r...

Just got back from Four Lions. I'm gonna have to see it again when it gets general release, the jokes were packed in so tight you missed half of them while everyone was pissing themselves laughing. Incredibly silly and over the top. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Chris Morris is a god.

Saw them last month when they toured here. Didn't know much of them, had given a brief listen during a Godspeed phase some years back. Absolutely blew me away I must say. Damned fine players and lots of changing around on stage. Well worth checking out.

Just devoured The Year of the Flood by Margret Atwood. It's a sequel (occurring concurrently) to Oryx and Crake. Absolutely adored the first and this fleshed out the story and showed it from the perspective of a different group of characters. As far as post-apocalyptic speculative fiction goes, it's...

He's coming out to Sydney for their movie festival in July. Vey much hoping he hangs round to do the Melbourne film festival a few weeks later. It should at very least, get a screening there. DVD release is mid August I think. Very excited for this - though not looking forward to waiting years more ...
